TV Chat -
A Chat with Actress Jane Seymour Physically fit mom Jane Seymour is a woman who has truly done it all! She is a TV and movie actress, an author, a fashion and housewares designer, a motivational speaker and the mom of several children, including young twins. Seymour currently stars in the Lifetime Original Movie, "Heart of a Stranger," as a single mother whose life gets made over when she receives a heart transplant. Moderator: She's just joined us! So let's all give a big welcome to Jane Seymour! Jane_Seymour: Thank you, I just got off an airplane, exhausted...but I received a great revue for the movie from the Hollywood Reporter...So I'm excited! Bridgehat1: If you received an organ from an organ doner, would you want to find out as much as you could about the donor? Jane_Seymour: Yes I would. And I would like to thank the family if it was appropriate. RENEE14548: Exactly what is this movie about? Jane_Seymour: This is based on a true story that happened to Claire Sylvia. Based on her book Change of Heart. Our character has a heart transplant in the nick of time. Her daughter has nursed her for many, many years, and after the surgery the mother becomes a completely different personality. Now she swears, craves beer and junk food and thinks nothing of riding a Harley very fast. This behavior scares her daughter and her friends, and ultimately with recurring visions of a devastating motorcycle accident, she decides to find out who her donor was and see if this answers any of her questions about her behavior. The donor's family are reluctant to meet her but she perseveres. And really the movie is a mother-daughter relationship piece as much as it is a story about a woman who is affected by the personality of the donor. KimD8763: What made you do the movie? Jane_Seymour: It was by far the best script I had read in five years. And I couldn't guess the movie at the beginning, it was subtly different from what I had imagined. And I thought it was a great acting role to play. mscici41: Did you meet any of the people involved in the real story? Jane_Seymour: Claire Sylvia spent the first week with me in Halifax, Nova Scotia. pebblesmom: Are you an organ donor yourself? Jane_Seymour: Yes. OwlScribe: I don't have a question...I want to tell you how glad I am you've come back to doing projects. I especially loved your work in "East of Eden" and "Somewhere in Time" Jane_Seymour: Thank you! It's good to be back! Maryannm3: In the book, Claire was involved with a lot of men. Does your character have any romantic relationships in the film? Jane_Seymour: Yes. She has a relationship with two different men but they don't really go anywhere in our film. We touch on that subject. pammiek: How do you select the roles you play? Jane_Seymour: Based on good scripts and where they're going to be made, and for whom. And who directs them. Mrs-Anthony-Nelson: Jane what are your plans for further Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman? Jane_Seymour: LOL! Please ask Les Moonves! I don't know! There are no plans that I know of. bahamamama1980: Jane...I loved you in Dr. Quinn with Sully...Do you ever plan to act with him again? Jane_Seymour: I plan to see Joe very soon. We would love to find a project to do together, and we are actively looking. Maryannm3: Is it sometimes better to do a film for a particular network then an Independent film where you don't know what is going to happen to it? Jane_Seymour: Definitely. The problem with independent movies is there is no guarantee of distribution. With television at least you know it will be soon and you know where, and a much larger percentage of the population of indeed the world will see it. Mrs-Anthony-Nelson: I really want to see Touching Wild Horses. Will that be on t.v.? Jane_Seymour: Ultimately I'm sure everything I do ends up on TV. Everything ends up on TV period. But that film has received great response at film festivals and has won some awards already. Our hope is that it will be distributed early next year. It's worth seeing on the big or small screen. SunflowerGirl91: The movie seems like it would have a romantic appeal like "Somewhere in Time." Which is one of my favorite movies. Any plans on making a sequal to that or a prequel? Jane_Seymour: People are always trying to figure that one out. But Chris and I don't want to hurt the essence of the original. However, finding another project to do with Chris is something I'm actively pursuing with him at this time. Why do a remake of something that works so well? Bridgehat1: In so many of your roles, you play an American, but in every day life you still have your British accent. Do you find it hard not to slip back into your British accent while your in character? Jane_Seymour: I'm so used to doing it now, but occasionally I slip. On words that are different in American from English. Very occasionally I slip. But someone points it out so hopefully the audience never notices. LiveCrafty: Jane would u consider doing a movie with your husband? Jane_Seymour: I'm made many movies with my husband, as director, producer and also as fellow actor. We love working together. In fact Marriage of Convenience, a movie James directed and produced, was on Lifetime three days ago. Originally made for CBS. KimD8763: How did your husband feel about this movie? Jane_Seymour: He loved the script, and he thought I was very good in it. We haven't seen it completely finished. We're going to watch it with the rest of the cast, director and producer tonight at a little party. But he thought I gave a good performance in it. PhenomenalWomen: Is this really Jane Seymour? Jane_Seymour: Yes, yes, yes! Is it you? ForgottenMurmaid: Which movie do you recommend buying for a loved one for Christmas ? Jane_Seymour: Somewhere In Time. Rache0598: Do you have any holiday traditions? Jane_Seymour: Traditional English Christmas. Christmas crackers, that's an English thing. Stockings for all the children from Father Christmas. And a carol service in our church on Christmas Eve with all the valley. And mulled wine and minced pies after the service in our house. Brittbratt144: How did you become famous and how old are you when you started Jane_Seymour: I started studying ballet at 3 or 4. Performing professionally from 13. In dance, singing and acting. And I became famous at age 17 with my first major role, an English series called the Onedine Line. Of course, James Bond made me way more famous, with Live and Let Die. ThyAngelsRoar: What Where were you born if you dont mind me asking Jane_Seymour: Hillingdon, Middlesex. Near London. Rache0598: Do you encourage or discouarge your children to pursue acting ambitions? Jane_Seymour: I encourage them to be happy, whatever that takes. Some are interested in acting. All are getting a university education first. Sheree0697: I just wanted to ask her how the twins are...... & what age they are now Jane_Seymour: They're great and they're seven. chukie238: They alway say that your eyes are two different colors... Jane_Seymour: I think two different colors is cool! I saw in the rags today that they consider it weird. In one movie I played two characters with two different contact lenses, green and brown, and in neither case did I look like me when both eyes were the same color. pebblesmom: I was born when my Mom was 40, so I was wondering how much different it was for you having twins when you were older? Jane_Seymour: It was difficult to conceive and difficult at their birth. But definitely the best decision I ever made. I wrote a book about it Two At A Time A Journey Through Twin Pregnancy. ThyAngelsRoar: What books have you written? Jane_Seymour: A Guide To Romantic Living, the one I just mentioned, A Journey Through Twin Pregnancy, Yum, Splat, and Boing from the This One and That One series. And a new book due Mother's Day 2003 called Remarkable Changes. Published by Judith Reagan. Rache0598: What are some of your favorite books? Jane_Seymour: I loved the Lovely Bones, I read that recently. And I loved Chris Reeves' book Still Me. Mrs-Anthony-Nelson: Ok... I have to ask this on behalf of all the DQ fans... Do you see any of Michaela's traits in you? Jane_Seymour: Many. But also not enough! Maryannm3: Is there an actress you yourself admire or one you would particularly love to work with? Jane_Seymour: Meryl Streep. Julia Roberts. AvocadoDig: I realize that you are an animal lover...I am too! What breed of cats do you own? Jane_Seymour: Strays. Stripey adoped from the pound. Nae2759: I hear you have your own clothing line, what made you want to do this? Jane_Seymour: It's a dream come true for me as I've always created my own clothing, or collected vintage pieces and put together my own style. Now I have the opportunity to create clothing that is beautifully made with great fabrics and embroideries and sell them for under $100. So basically it's affordable chic, in all sizes, from 4 petit to 2X. Mrs-Anthony-Nelson: I love your clothing line.. Such beautiful cothes Jane_Seymour: My idea is that everyone should be able to dress at a price they can afford. CharliesMom2: Where can one find your clothing line? Jane_Seymour: Either through a catalogue called Crossing Pointe, or on line on janeseymour.com That's probably the easiest. They have an amazing sale right now! Check it out! quinnfan: Have you ever considered doing a juniors clothing line? Jane_Seymour: I'm launching my junior zero to seven for Saks, Inc. in June or July of 2003, along with a home decor line exclusively for Saks. Not Saks Fifth Avenue, but all their other stores. jessi_durham: I know that you love to paint. What are your favorite things to paint and have you sold any of your works? Jane_Seymour: I just flew back from Jackson, Tennessee where I had a one woman art show, and sold many paintings. I had showings in La Jolla, San Diego, Los Angeles, Veil and Beaver Creek recently. I paint very personal subjects, from landscapes to my children and other people's children. And of course flowers. I also create my own fabrics for the clothing line with original art work. CharliesMom2: How can we find out your art show schedule? Jane_Seymour: On Friends of Jane they seem to know more about my schedule than I do. Lastcount101: Are any of your paintings available through online sales? Jane_Seymour: If anyone contacts Titus Fine Arts, they can do that. They have a website. Rache0598: I am a student teacher and just recently took a children's literature class, do you have any favorite children's books? Jane_Seymour: I read so many great children's books. I just read a new one that I want to help distribute. Written by a girl I met yesterday called Diane Odell who's lived in an iron lung machine her whole life. Since she was three years old and contracted polio. It's a beautiful story. She's 55 now. Rache0598: So far, what has been your favorite character that you have played and is there any character that you have always wanted to do? Jane_Seymour: I'm always superstitious to name parts I wish to play, ever since I answered this question as a child and answered Juliet in Romeo and Juliet. Dr. Quinn was a great character. In terms of a challenge, Maria Callas was wonderful too. Nae2759: What is your favorite Dr. Quinn episode? Mine was A New Beginning. You do such wonderful work...I admire you! Jane_Seymour: I don't remember the titles of all of them, but I loved that one and Washita. I had the most fun in The Race. CrysMichael1: Whats Your Favorite Male Actor You've Worked With? Jane_Seymour: Christopher Reeve and Joe Lando. ThyAngelsRoar: Is your life truly dramatic Jane_Seymour: Everyone's life is dramatic. Mine is pretty full though. mscici41: Of all your movies, what is your favorite, and why? Jane_Seymour: Somewhere In Time. Because it shows true romance and love. Grayce59: I'd love to know your favorite "James Bond"! Your neighbor or Roger Moore? Or perhaps another? Jane_Seymour: Roger Moore obviously because he was mine! But Sean Connery will always be Bond to me. Yet Pierce Brosnan in this new movie is fabulous. Dancingjellyfish2: Somewhere In Time ruined it for any man I may meet. How could they possibly live up to that kind of romance? Jane_Seymour: Show him the movie! Lastcount101: You seem like a very romantic person. How long have you and your husband been married? Jane_Seymour: We've been together at least ten years, maybe 11. I've lost count! ForgottenMurmaid: Are you numb to compliments yet or do you still blush? Jane_Seymour: I still enjoy compliments. I don't know if I deserve them though. Lyndajane7: Hi Jane! What is your favorite sport to participate in? Jane_Seymour: Golf. And fly fishing. And skiing. judgedd: Do you feel that you have a strong spiritual base? I am not speaking of religion here, just spirituality. Jane_Seymour: Definitely. But not in organized religion. ForgottenMurmaid: Hey Jane, what colour nail polish do you wear most? Jane_Seymour: None. If I do, it's natural kind of pale, pink pearl. My toes are usually red. pebblesmom: What was the biggest fish you ever caught? Jane_Seymour: 150 pound shark. Two of them. I haven't seen the show but everyone saw me do it on ESPN, American World of Sports or something. But I definitely caught the sharks, and they released them. Mrs-Anthony-Nelson: Have you always had long hair? Jane_Seymour: I cut it all off at age 13 to my shoulders. And then grew it back. It used to be a lot longer than it is now. I used to sit on it. Now it comes to just below my bra strap. jessi_durham: How old are all of your children? Jane_Seymour: Twin 7 year olds, 17 year old Sean, Katie's almost 21, Jenny's 22, Kalen is 25. Mrs-Anthony-Nelson: Jane how do you juggle acting and being a mom and wife? Jane_Seymour: Two have graduated college, one graduates this year, one drives and is in high school, and the twins are very understanding and helpful. With the support of my husband and secretary and nanny, I just about manage to juggle. It isn't easy. Nae2759: Do you own your own house in England? Jane_Seymour: Yes. phisigmusic: I've heard you rent your home overseas out while you're not there. Is that true Jane_Seymour: Yes. You can go to Friends of Jane, or St. Catherine's Court website. It's available and economically, if 8 couples go, it works out to less than $150 per person per night. JimmyHeard2: What were the qualities you looked for in finding a husband? Jane_Seymour: The right one! Honesty, compassion, a kindred spirit, and a great lover. Dancingjellyfish2: What is your most favorite thing to do to relax? Jane_Seymour: Paint. phisigmusic: Hi Jane what's the best score you've had in golf Jane_Seymour: I once broke 100, but I score differently for myself! I give myself stars on my card every time I hit a ball the way I planned to. So I have two scores going - the real scorecard and the other one that tells me if I'm managing to hit the ball well. It's less depressing that way. malpal_dancer13: Hi Jane, how are you? What is your favorite television show? Jane_Seymour: I have so little time to watch. I guess 60 Minutes. Or Lifetime movies. AvocadoDig: Are you ready for the Christmas holidays? Brittbratt144: Do you buy alot of presents for your kids? Jane_Seymour: I'm never ready for the holidays, and I buy lots of presents for everyone. Since we travel to England it's difficult to bring presents there and then bring them back. So we almost have to have two Christmases. Sydney1414: Do you and James get much time to yourselves? How do you keep the spark alive? Jane_Seymour: We need more time to ourselves right now. It's been very busy. But we snatch moments like dates whenever we can. blushing_chica: What type of music do you let your kids listen to and are you strict about profanity and stuff like that? Jane_Seymour: Very strict about profanity. Won't accept it from any of the children. My older son doesn't play the rap music that has very bad language to the children. We try to avoid that. But some of the first graders are already swearing which I find horrifying. I don't accept it with my family. Brittbratt144: Have you ever written a role play yourself and played or starred in it?And about how many movies and shows do you think you;ve been in? Jane_Seymour: I've most count of how many. For example War and Remembrance was 32 hours, and Dr. Quinn 150 plus. I created at least half a dozen ideas for Dr. Quinn stories. Which I took no credit for. And I help create and produce movies with my husband all the time. Frr example, Enslavement, the Fanny Kemble Story. mandymarie75: Jane, how do you stay so young and in shape? What is your best work out secret? Jane_Seymour: I need to work out a lot more than I do. I have so little time. But when I can I'm very careful to work out properly. I do Pilates, and isometrics and lift light weights. I also fast walk rather than run. I eat mostly chicken, fish and organic vegetables and fruit. Basically everything in moderation. LilMizSexyThang89: Is Jane going to have an intimate portrait Jane_Seymour: That's already been done, but I just finished helping with an A&E biography which I believe comes out next year. justin17apollo: Being a woman, I'm sure you appreciate great television designed specifically for women. Do you watch Lifetime Television, the station this movie was made for? If so, what is your favorite Lifetime Teleivsion show and why? Jane_Seymour: I catch Lifetime whenever I can. I always find something interesting on that channel. Everywhere I go people tell me they like Lifetime the best. I feel that Lifetime has taken over making the quality movies I used to make for CBS. Rache0598: What would you be doing if you weren't an actress? Jane_Seymour: Designing clothes and painting, which I'm doing! bahamamama1980: So are you going to tune into your movie in a couple minutes? Jane_Seymour: Yes, I need to drive to the producer's home to watch it with Maggie and the other stars and the director, Dick. When you've seen the movie, please post your feedback on Friends of Jane. We'd love to hear your thoughts. Sydney1414: Do you plan to write your autobiography? Jane_Seymour: One day, meanwhile the books I write are very autobiographical, they deal with specific issues. CrysMichael1: Whats an upcoming film, you want to see? Jane_Seymour: I'm so behind in films. CharliesMom2: Do you have any particular causes about which you are passionate? Jane_Seymour: Stopping and preventing child abuse. With Child Help USA and other agencies. City HEarts, a program for kids at risk. To give them free arts programming.Christopher Reeve's American Paralysis Association. And of course, the American Red Cross. LiveCrafty: I am currently a student at Kent State University and this is finals week.. I just wanted to tell you that I planned my entire study schedule around this movie! I hope it is good.. Jane_Seymour: It is and thank you very much. I appreciate that, especially since I have a daughter in college and know how hard it is to do finals. Christy331851: Would you ever like to do a classical Broadway show live such as "Cats", "Fiddler On The Roof", etc..? Jane_Seymour: I did the original Amadeus on Broadway 21 years ago. Maryannm3: What was the one most frightening moment in your life? Jane_Seymour: In Spain when I was playing Maria Callas, I had anaphalactic shock and almost died. Reachforsky64251: What would we be suprised to learn about Jane Seymour? Jane_Seymour: That I clean floors and toilets after small children! twin41481: Are you ever star struck when meeting other celebrities? Jane_Seymour: Not struck but excited sometimes. They're real people like all of us. I don't like to push into people's space. I tend to be shy. quinnfan: Jane, I heard you had alot of fun doing Heart of a Stranger. What was your favorite scene to do? Jane_Seymour: The final scene I shot where I was playing pool in the black mini skirt and the director, producer and many of the crew had money on whether i would sink the ball. And I kept sinking it on cue. Some people lost a lot of money! Then we finished shooting and stayed on a few hours and partied in the pool hall. That was a lot of fun. Also visiting Peggy's Cove where the lighthouse scene was. There were some great gift shops that I did some serious damage in.' college_babe_at_miami: How long did this movie take to make? Jane_Seymour: I think I spent four weeks there, maybe 4 1/2. KimCHaynes: Jane, I think that it is really cool that you are taking time to chat with your fans. Jane_Seymour: Thank you and I plan to do another chat with my own website...check for times and dates on Friends of Jane. Jane_Seymour: Just be understanding please that I can't respond to everyone! Cause I physically don't have enough time in my life as it is to respond to my friends! So a chatroom like this is great because I can answer questions for a lot of people at the same time. luvjlopez89: Almost 9:00 everyone! Better get ready for the movie! Moderator: Thanks so much for chatting with us tonight, Jane. Jane_Seymour: Goodbye, thank you for chatting with me, please watch the movie and let us know what you think. Get off the computer and turn Lifetime on! I'm online Thursday at 5 Pacific time on Friends of Jane.... Speak to you soon. Love, Jane! Moderator: Hey everyone -- thanks so much for joining our chat this evening! Hope you enjoyed talking with Jane Seymour! And just so you know.... I realize you can't see everyone in the room... but I can see all your questions coming in and there are lots and lots. So I offer a sincere apology to those of you whose questions didn't get answered. We tried to take enough questions of different kinds for Jane to answer. I hope that even if your specific question didn't get answered, you still enjoyed watching the chat and seeing what Jane had to say. She had a great time talking to you all and I sure hope you're going to check out her movie tonight! Moderator: In case you missed the information earlier...
