Plot Outline: Fanny Kemble is a world-famous actress on a tour in pre-Civil War America. Pierce Butler is the handsome southern gentleman who sweeps her off her feet. Fanny thinks she's finally found the love and wealth she's never had, but it comes with a horrifying price. Pierce's money is made from a brutal slave plantation in Georgia. When the couple moves to the plantation, Fanny is faced with the appalling living conditions forced on the slaves. When she tries to improve their situation, she herself is savagely punished. Frustrated and deceived, the time has come for her to make the ultimate moral choice. "She was one of the rarest of women. A prouder nature never affronted the long humiliation of life.
